چکیده

In the conventional online communities such as chat systems, bulletin boards and listservers, users who actively provide information are considered valuable, while users who visit online communities just to collect information tend to be regarded as non-contributors. We propose that we should facilitate the latter group of users to turn into active information providers by introducing a novel framework into online communities. We call this new community framework “transparent community.” In transparent communities, each user is required to have his/her independent information inventory that can be referred to each other. In this context, we made use of SIONet (Hoshiai et al., 2001), a novel peer-to-peer (P2P) architecture, as an enabling technology to build a communityware prototype which we call “WineDiary.” In this paper, we verify the possibility of this novel community framework through the results of user testing on WineDiary.

Community-centric mobile peer-to-peer services: performance evaluation and user studies

The popularity of social networking services emphasises the importance of user communities. As the next evolutionary step, social networking will evolve towards user communities that are dynamically established according to contextual aspects such as the shared location and/or activities of people. In this vision, distributed peer-to-peer (P2P) technologies provide a respectable alternative to ...

Peer-to-peer Framework for Mobile Learning with Context-aware Services

Peer-to-peer (P2P) and mobile technologies enable the integration between face-to-face and virtual communities, allowing users to experiment new models of learning and to contextualize them to their physical space or time. In this work we describe our view of a P2P e-learning community (PEC), and propose a taxonomy for context-aware e-learning services. Moreover, we illustrate how P2P mechanism...

Case Study on a Community-Centric Mobile Service Environment

This paper discusses and evaluates the design and the implementation of a Community-centric Mobile Service Environment (COMSE), where all services are developed with Web technologies. The service environment is built on a distributed communication platform that is implemented using a DHT-based peer-to-peer (P2P) protocol. The interaction between P2P overlay networks and Web-based services is re...

browserCloud.js - A federated community cloud served by a P2P overlay network on top of the web platform

Grid computing has been around since the 90’s, its fundamental basis is to use idle resources in geographically distributed systems in order to maximize its efficiency, giving researchers access to computational resources to perform their jobs (e.g. studies, simulations, rendering, data processing, etc). This approach quickly grew into non grid environments, causing the appearance of projects s...
